Panelist: particle Physics
I studied Physics at the University of Warwick before embarking on a PhD in Experimental Particle Physics at Royal Holloway, University of London. My PhD took me to California for 2 years to work on an experiment called BABAR, which studied B meson physics primarily. After my PhD I joined the CMS experiment at CERN where I worked for 9 years. I became a lecturer in Bristol in 2019, where I still work on the CMS experiment and am also a member of the DUNE experiment, under construction in the USA. My research interests include developing fast (~microsecond) data selection systems for particle physics experiments as well as working on searches for Dark Matter. I have recently moved into the development and application of Machine Learning algorithms in these areas as they could spot patterns that are invisible to us.
